KBRN, Sidoarjo, Indonesia — Search and rescue operations at Al-Khoziny Islamic Boarding School have entered their eighth day. Rescuers continue working to recover victims still trapped beneath the collapsed structure in Sidoarjo, East Java.
The extension was announced by Bramantyo, Director of Operations at the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas). The decision followed a comprehensive on-site assessment conducted on Monday (6/10/2025).
“We are extending the operation into the eighth day to ensure no victim is left behind. “Every missing student must be found, and the rights of their families must be respected,” Bramantyo told reporters.
The joint rescue team consists of Basarnas, the Armed Forces (TNI), the National Police (Polri), and the Regional Disaster Agency. Local volunteers are also involved, using heavy equipment and heat-detection tools to locate remaining victims.
The main command post near the disaster site remains fully operational throughout the rescue process. It provides logistical assistance and psychological support for victims’ families and survivors.
“We understand how difficult this situation is for the families. That is why we will not stop until the search is completed responsibly,” Bramantyo added.
As of Monday morning, rescue teams focused on several high-risk zones still unstable due to weakened structures. Safety challenges have slowed progress but have not halted recovery efforts.
Initially, the search operation was scheduled to conclude on Sunday (5/10/2025). Officials decided to extend it by one more day after reports indicated several students remained unaccounted for.
The Al-Khoziny Islamic Boarding School collapse has drawn nationwide attention. Ongoing rescue efforts highlight both the scale of the tragedy and Indonesia’s strong humanitarian commitment.
